While in New York this past weekend, I was lucky enough to land an interview with the amazing Pit Master and Chef, Hugh Mangum!

Hugh is the owner of Mighty Quinn’s Slow Smoked Barbecue in New York City.  Since opening its doors in December of 2012, he has since opened several more locations in the metro New York area, as well as expanding to Asia.

Hugh won on Chopped, a judge on three episodes of Beat Bobby Flay, and has appeared on Iron Chef Eats

Hugh was a pleasure to speak with, and gave us more time than he probably had, given his busy restaurant and how hands on he is.

From touring as a drummer, to going to culinary school to honor his dad’s memory, to becoming a successful pitmaster and restaurant owner, Hugh kept us engaged in his very interesting life story.  We really appreciated his time and his openness.

He also shared some great tips and advice on smoking and what has made his restaurants so successful.

You really don’t want to miss this interview!  It was a little noisy...but that’s because his restaurant is such a happening place!

And you know we tried the food....and there are no words to really describe the tenderness of the pulled pork, how the brisket simply melts in your mouth, the taste of his baked beans with burnt tips, or his award winning macaroni and cheese…among many other mouth watering items on the menu.

Next time you’re in New York, his is not a restaurant you want to skip!
